Manus in Mano is Latin for “Hand in Hand”, and it’s the way we approach our life together; together, partners in all things, supporting each other in everything.
Manus in Mano is also the name of the travel blog I created in 2004 to document our first sailing trip to Greece. I kept the travels separate for a while, but eventually two blogs was too much work…one is too much sometimes. I didn’t want to lose those trips because I enjoy revisiting them and laughing about the writing; it was a fun end to most days, a time when we reflected on the adventures we’d had. On that first trip, and the second too, we would end every evening lounging on the back deck of the boat, or in the settee, or even in the v-berth, documenting the adventures of the day and putting our spin on the events. Writing it up was as much fun as the events themselves. And so I keep trying to document things when we travel, because it keeps every day fresh from start to end and keeps us connected in our mutual enjoyment of life and each other.
We don’t travel far from Vancouver all that often, most of our trips are out in our own boat in our own waters, or riding our two wheeled machines on close by roads, since we really do live in one of the most amazing places on the planet. Mini-adventures, or micro-adventures as they are sometimes called, are as important as the larger trips. But sometimes we venture further afield. In 2005 we flew to Greece and decided to test our mettle for 21 days in a sailboat. It was (mostly) a success and we blogged our trip as we went (see Greece 2005). We decided to do it again (the trip and the blog) in 2009, for a full month. Lately our trips have been more conventional or long motorcycle rides, change is good.
