Flower Power

by The Philosophical Fish

The cherry blossoms are starting to peak and after breezing through the passport renewal process this morning I found myself with an unexpected amount of time before a scheduled coffee-shop-work’ish-meeting with someone from UBC. I’d thought I risked being late having left an hour and a half between the time the office opened and our meeting time….and then I was in and out of the passport office in an astounding 15 minutes!!

The agent I dealt with mentioned things had slowed up with the boondoggle to the south and far fewer people seem to be rushing for passports than is usually the case. She also said that, for the same reason, I should expect to have my new passport in hand in less than two weeks. When she’d asked me if I was travelling any time soon I’d said “No” that I was just getting caught up on things that needed doing in the next little bit.

Finding myself with over an hour at a time of day when shops were not yet open, I went for a walk, wandered up to the open area between Canada Place and the Seabus terminal at Kirk’s texted suggestion of “Do you have your camera with you? If yes…the cherry trees by my office building are beautiful…” and spent a little time enjoying the crazy number of flowers on the trees in the little plaza.

And then I spent an hour having a fabulous conversation about science and research and opportunities.

Not a bad morning.
