I feel like we used to call this the Pineapple Express rather than an “atmospheric river”….but apparently the term is legit and has been around since 1990.
An atmospheric river is a general term for such relatively narrow corridors of enhanced water vapor transport at mid-latitudes around the world.
The Pineapple Express is a specific type of atmospheric river that originates near Hawaii and carries moisture towards the West Coast of North America.
