For all that I love my insane collection of Fluevog shoes that date back to my first pair purchased in 1986 when I came to Vancouver for a Billy Idol concert…..the second runner up in my closet are my several pairs of Dr. Marten’s boots. One of my sets of footwear for my wedding was a pair of white Doc’s with silver roses stitched up the sides…I still have them.
I’ve never had footwear stand up to abuse the way Doc’s do; the soles seem indestructible. I had a pair of lace up ankle boots that I bought during my MSc and they lasted over 20 years of regular (and often highly abusive) wear. I think the leather had almost worn through in places…but the soles were barely worn down. I only let them go a couple of years ago.
