Children of a common mother – Day 307

by The Philosophical Fish

Not Eve, this isn’t a religious inscription.

Although, ironically, the inscription on the Canadian side of the actual Peace Arch monument at the Peach Arch Crossing is religious in nature, and says “Brethren dwelling together in unity” and the phrase comes from Psalms 133:1

The inscription on the US side is a reference to the fact that both countries have a common origin in the British Empire.

This is a smaller arch that stands in front of the high school in Blaine, Washington. We zipped down to Blaine today to pick up a few parcels waiting for us at a shipping & receiving company in the small border community.

I walked in and waited behind two others ahead of me. While the person in the back collected their items, the young woman behind the computer looked past them, smiled, and said “It’s Paige, right?”

Ummm….I clearly am here too often….and yet it’s been weeks since I last walked through the door.

It’s the hair.

It’s always the hair.

Maybe the hair plus the name….

Right?

Anyway, let’s leave that little thing alone.

I asked Kirk to stop on the way back to the border, so I could take a photo of the replica arch at the high school. It seems significant right now.

Just a few days from now, November the 5ht, the election will be over and the results will come in…and be hotly contested no matter what the outcome.

And, no matter the outcome, history will be made, for better or worse.

Let’s hope it’s for the better…..
