After a whirlwind two weeks of canning and preserving, it was a baking day (7 loaves of banana bread) and a trip to the grocery store for provisions for the week ahead. I have a long road trip planned for Saturday, and a week of fish work on the river and in the hatchery for the full week, before an equally long drive home.
I usually fly in but, in an attempt to keep travel dollars available for others, I opted to drive. I also opted to bring my own groceries in instead of per diem expenses, and groceries are less costly on the coast than they are in a small and somewhat remote community.
I took a breather in the garden at some point today, and noticed something unusual tucked into an ornamental spruce at the side of the pond, on one of the old hemlock stumps.

A couple of funky fungi….what kind? I have no idea. If any of my fungi friendly friends know, please enlighten me.
The wet looking brown spots are just that, wet spots. Little dark puddles of liquid.

And the top one?
Well, it looks like a weird alligator/crocodile to me.

Can’t unsee that now, can you?
