I had some things to pick up across the border at a shipping and receiving company. As we left the North Shore we were (as usual) amazed at the traffic coming “to” the North Shore. When we first moved over here the traffic was always worst getting off in the morning, and getting back in the afternoon. Now it’s the reverse. We crossed the border easily, picked up my items in Blaine
Knowing the traffic behind us, we then made an on-the-fly decision to keep going south into Old Fairhaven to find lunch and wander the town.
It was one of those lazy summer afternoons, when the temperature is just perfect, there is a comfortable ocean breeze blowing through town, and you find a table under an umbrella on a patio under a clear blue sky with excellent service and really great food…..and you think….”here is nice“
And after a few hours, you drive north again, cross the border with absolutely no wait (thanx Nexus), and drive across the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge as the traffic leaving the North Shore is backed up horribly in the opposite direction and you appreciate that you mostly seem to be going in the right direction at the right time.
We did stop in downtown old-Bellingham, which we are usually riding straight through on the bikes on our way to ride Chuckanut, and we wandered the streets a little bit. We hadn’t done that in probably 10-20 years and the place is a bit sad compared to what it used to be. While there are lots of places to grab a bite to eat of a drink, there are few little boutiques there anymore. But there was one sign worth taking a quick snap of, because….well…..
