Nine peas in a pod (Day 187)

by The Philosophical Fish

People always use the euphemism “Two peas in a pod” to imply likeness, but no two peas are actually exactly the same.

It’s the differences that make us human and it’s the differences that make us interesting.

How boring and awful would the world be if we were all alike in our thinking. Stagnation, that’s what it would be like. We’d all be thrilled that there was never any progress, ever any alternatives.

I once had someone I cared for very deeply tell me that we could no longer be friends because we didn’t think alike.

I had someone give me back a book and tell me they hadn’t read it because it might make them question what they believed.

I’m happy to be a slightly different pea in a large pod.

One can belong without being a clone, sometimes.

I am also always happy when English peas are available in the grocery store, I can’t seem to grow them well so I buy bags of them and simply sit down and shell and inhale. It takes me back to my childhood on my grandparents’ farms in the Shuswap. Sure, I was basically child slave labour….but OH, there were perks 🙂
