When I was leaving Burnaby Kawasaki after getting my new tires installed on my motorcycle (and having the front brake calibers rebuilt) last week I noticed that an ornamental cherry tree, behind where my bike was parked after it’s repairs, had a beautiful blossom at its base, immediately below a removed trunk.
At first I thought it was a flower that someone has stuck there, then I realized it was growing from a twig at the base of the stump.
Talk about resilience.
re·sil·ience /rəˈzilēəns/ noun
- the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. “the remarkable resilience of so many institutions”

Ironically, the little prompt deck of cards I have been using for thinking/journalling/creativity kick-starts the past week are called Resilience Cards.
The card I pulled from the deck today says:
“You’re not much more demented than other people – you just know a lot more about what’s passing through your mind”
Well if that doesn’t give pause for thought, I don’t know what does.
We’ve all had to learn a lot of resilience the past few years and, at the same time, it’s probably important to remember that none of us has had the same journey.
