It was that kind of day, not a lot of fish to work with, not a lot ready for spawning, but still a worthwhile day.
And it’s also always good for the psyche to work with people who can find a way to make everyone smile. On an unconscious level it can be draining to spend so much time killing fish, regardless of the fact that the rationale is to make more, to conserve stocks, to benefit the resource. It’s still killing living things and while to some it might seem odd, it is a little way to cope with the killing and some of the other stresses that the work entails.
I appreciate that there are people who care enough about the resource to be out in the cold doing the work, and I appreciate that those same people care enough about each other to find ways to bring a little bit of lightness. I appreciate that someone travels with google eyes in her pocket looking for objects to plunk them on to bring smiles.
