Success!!! (305/365/2023)

OMG!

Six months!

That’s how long it took me to get a woman into a new position in my workplace.

I met with her back in April or May, and then started what turned into a completely a nightmarish process of hiring her. She was supposed to start in October, security derailed that. The it was next week. And then in a surprise turn of events I mandged to get her in a week earlier.

Perseverance and tenacity, two or my traits that some people really hate, worked in her favour eventually. And today was her first day.

So I picked her up at her home early in the morning, and took her out for an egg take at a community project. I figured that a good first day of her first job out of her graduate degree at UBC, would be to be christened with some fish slime at a local river.

After we finished up I took her shopping for some rain gear (I had provided a selection of my own to get her through the fishy work this morning) and then into he office where we started the always entertaining and fun filled process of “onboarding”.

She was supposed to have a computer today, and a phone later in a few days. the phone turned up, the computer was locked in someone’s desk and they aren’t in until tomorrow. Some paperwork, a few signatures, a walk around, here is the kitchen, here is the bike lockup, here is where the vehicles are located, here is your Monday desk, here is your Tuesday desk, there is your Wednesday – Friday desk (erg!!!), here is a list of lame acronyms that we all use……

A few successes, a few failures, but probably completely overwhelming to her.

But the point is…we did it!!

I need a drink….after today I bet she does too!
