We’ve been season ticket holders for the Art’s Club Theatre for more years than I can count and every year we look forward to seeing what they come up with for performances at the Stanley. The first show of the season this year was not a disappointment and the music is still stuck in my head.
If you are looking for a fabulous show to see in Vancouver in the next couple of weeks, I highly recommend it!
Little Shop of Horrors at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage
Of particular delight was the actor playing Orin Scrivello DDS (aka The Dentist). The actor must have spent so much time watching Steve Martin’s portrayal of the character in the movie because he was absolutely magnificent on stage.
And Audrey II, the work that went into each growth/size iteration of the plant! It was amazing.
The ending wasn’t what I remember from the movie but, when I looked it up later, I discovered that the original movie ending had been cut and a happy ending had been shot in its place. So the ending in the stage performance was actually the original ending, with Audrey II killing Audrey, surviving, and budding little Audrey II’s that end up taking over the world.
And there you go….and I will have two earworms for week now.
- “Little shop, little shop of horrors…”
- “‘Cause….I’m a dentist…..”
