Crocosmia – Emily McKenzie (211/365/2023)

The Lensbaby Velvet 28 makes an otherwise pretty image look ethereal. I love the softness the lens imparts, the glow in imbues a scene with. It’s just such an interesting art lens to learn and work with. It truly is one of my favourite lenses.

This is an Emily McKenzie crocosmia and I’ve been trying to get one to stick in my garden for a couple of years, I was finally successful. I used to have the Lucifer variety, but they were entirely too massive. They blocked too much of the view of the garden, though they were magnificent.

I tried some of these as a replacement for the Lucifers three years ago, but they didn’t make it in the extreme heat. Then I picked up a few pots at the end of the season two years ago, but they didn’t make it through the winter. Last year I bought two pots and tried again, getting them in the ground in the late summer/early fall so they had a bit of time to settle. They are finally making a go of it, and they are so pretty.
