Oddly, we started Canada Day by driving to the USA, but only for a few minutes. I had a couple of parcels to pick up and the Nexus pass makes it so easy to dart down and back. There is this fun metal piece of art across the street from the shipping & receiving company that has always made me smile (it’s a fish, so no surprise there) and since the day was beautiful and the sky was blue, it stood out with a strong contrast, so I finally took a photo of it.
When we got back home and were trying to decide what to do with the day, we decided to go for a walk. I had a pair of pants that need hemming and so I popped them in a backpack along with some water and my camera and we walked down to the mall. It’s about 3.5km, and Kirk suggested that maybe we would walk down to the Shipyards to see what was going on for Canada Day celebrations. It would just depend on how I was feeling after walking down to the Ambleside area first…
I hurt.
I sort of felt like I was just kind of falling forward all the way.
One big problem with living on the North Shore is that it’s on the edge of a mountain range……so even though from home to the mall is all downhill…..one does have to eventually go all uphill to get home….and #UpIsHard today.
Once I’d dropped the pants off, Kirk kindly suggested we take a bus over to the Shipyards, and also home when we were finished there.
But I mustered some energy and, with a few sit-downs along the way, we made it. The place was pretty packed, music, balloons, the waterpark had children yelling and rushing through the spray. It felt a bit different at this location (it used to always be at Waterfront Park a little to the West), but it was sunny and fabulous.
Washington’s new yacht was at dock, the Atessa V…I think I could probably live on that relatively easily.
Eventually I was just done with the crowd and we vacated…. We typically drive up and down Lonsdale, walking was kind of nice. It was a chance to slow down and look in the windows and see the shops and restaurants a little more closely. To see what was new, what we’d not noticed before. A chance to stop part way up at Jack Lonsdale’s for a drink and a snack, before heading up to Upper Lonsdale and down Queen’s and into Edgemont for the final waddle home…with a brief stop at the grocery store.
It was a quiet’ish Canada Day, pretty chill and relaxed, and I really didn’t intend to put another 16km on my feet after yesterday, but I did…..because it was a gorgeous day.
….and even though I did put sunscreen on, I missed a spot in the straps of my sandals, and now have a little burnt triangle on each foot.
So close!
