Forest Flora (114/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

It’s been cold, rainy, and grey for what feels like too long this spring. On the upside, all that rain leaves the forest vibrant green with a blanket of moss and lichen. And as time progresses, plants are starting to put their flowers forth.

The skunk cabbage is popping up, though small by usual standards.

And the salmonberry flowers are starting to open, their bright magenta petals an electric pop of colour against the green and brown backdrop.

There is a bit of warm and dry weather on the horizon in the next few days so things should really start to speed up soon.

This is also the time of year where I am trying to remind myself that my head should be on a swivel as I walk through the forest to the hatchery in the mornings…because a bear took down our bird feeder over the weekend at home, so they are out and about again.
