Target Fixation (108/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

My walk to work includes a somewhat risky pedestrian crossing….that sometimes feels more like a bulls eye on a target….

I am a pretty aggressive pedestrian, but I don’t fool around at this crossing. I once stood just off the curb and waited for two cars coming down the hill to stop for me….the first one did….but not the second one. Luckily neither driver was hurt, but the one that did the hitting needed to be towed. It was weird…the airbag didn’t go, but the driver couldn’t move it…he couldn’t even turn it off.

Another time I was about to cross the road and a small car came up from the park and wanted to turn up the hill, it’s basically a 270 degree corner and the crosswalk/island here makes that virtually impossible….unless you are a small car that drives “through” that crosswalk space between the two concrete island sections!

Not lying.

It barely fit…but she did it anyway.

I’ve stood here and waved flashlights at cars coming up and down the road. I’ve waved my umbrella. I’ve waved my arms.

What I do NOT do is cross the road until the traffic stops.

I’ve seen this sign in this position more than a few times…they must have quite a stockpile of them, because whenever I see it flattened, a shiny new one is installed before the day is out.
