I stuck the Lensbaby Velvet 28 lens on the Nikon and I am trying to leave it on for a while while I reacquaint myself with its wonderfully ethereal qualities. It’s a different way of taking photos….it doesn’t talk to the camera so it means I have to think about every shot…manually determine the f-stop, shutter speed, ISO settings, and the focus.
It takes me back to photography the way I learned it. Rather that just randomly take a million shots, which digital cameras make so easy to do, I have to actually “think” about settings and then do everything manually, because the camera won’t make the adjustments that we have become so accustomed to.
It also lends a wonderful softness that is so different from that tack-sharp focus that has become the norm. There is something…organic…about the images that are left on the sensor when these lenses are on the camera.
I am remembering why I love these lenses….and it’s making me carry the Nikon with me more often again.
This is a good thing, because the camera makes me focus on other things, and it is a wonderful distraction from the stresses in my life.
