Bob’s Back! (90/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

We thought she was gone….haven’t seen her in a couple of months and a new one seemed to have taken up her territory. A couple of days ago I stopped by one of my neighbours and, as we were chatting outside, she pointed behind me and said “Your squirrel is here”. I said no, Bob hasn’t been seen in months, that we thought she was a goner….that this one is known to us, but not Bob.

But late this afternoon…there was a squirrel on the deck.

I assumed it was the new squirrel, the skittish one that seems to know there are peanuts here, but is unwilling to come close enough to take one from our hands. But as I glanced over….this one came right up to the French doors and put its paws on the glass and peered inside at me. When I stepped forward, instead of bolting, it stood up taller, and then hopped up on the back of the outdoor seating and looked in the window, before leaping back to the door.

Oh, this was definitely not the skittish new one…this squirrel knew I was coming to open the door and was excited about it.

When I opened the door, the squirrel rushed forward and peered in…I looked down at that little left front foot and yes…there it was…that bent toe that identifies Bob as Bob.

We thought an owl or a cat may have caught here, or that she’d been hit by a car.

But no…Bob is still with us.

Still in the land of the living, wet and bedraggled on a rainy day, and looking for peanuts 😊

Nice to see you again Bob! 🐿️
