Waiting for better conditions (50/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

The playground is empty on a cool and damp winter morning as I muddle along my run.

The news on Gizmo is better than anticipated.

Dr. MacDonald called last night, after 10pm, and said that he was feeling better and that she was feeding him some baby mash (basically a super high nutrient value baby bird feed) from a syringe. She said we could come visit him today if we like (YES!), and then she sent a photo and a short little video of him in his little ICU.

He looks like crap, but he’s been looking ratty for the past couple of years, so that wasn’t anything new. But he was bright and inquisitive and interested in the phone as she took the video.

So he hasn’t left this world yet….and there may be a glimmer of hope that he will come home to us again, though it’s clear, from the heart incident, that he will be even more fragile than he has been these past few years, and that his care may get more complicated yet.

And so we continue in our holding pattern as we marvel at the level of care that this little parrot is receiving, and the dedication this woman has to her patients.

(Not much of a photo today, just a snap taken on my run and a bit of futzing in Photoshop on a day that I just don’t have much initiative)
