Out for a walk (14/365/2023)

Had a couple of errands today and Kirk said “we should go for a walk or a hike“, so my solution was to combine the two activities, and it turned into 17km down and back up both sides of the Capilano River.

At the lower end, near the estuary, we happened on a couple of really cool bunches of seed heads, which I “think” are clematis vines, and have the coolest structural details….the kind of remind me of crinoids.

Part way back up we enjoyed watching a seagull standing on a rock that is normally exposed but which today is covered by raging water because of the amount of rain we’ve had the past 24-48 hours. It’s actually quite impressive that it was able to remain standing solidly while the water swept over its feet on the big boulder.

And, finally, at the upper end, we stopped in at the hatchery to see how high the water was at the fishway…..not as high as I’ve seen it …but still pretty high. A handful of kayakers were positioned not he rocks and eventually pushed into he raging current for what I can only imagine to have been a thrilling paddle downstream.

It was gorgeous today, a high around 13-14C….at this time of year, you have to take advantage of those warm and dry days when we get them 😊
