No Ghosting Today (3/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

I should have gone for a run today.

I promised myself to get back to three days a week.

I ran Sunday, so I should have run today.

Today was the first time I was working back downtown at the office in three years. I’m not back there full time, just a couple of days a week, but it’s still a bit of a shift in gears. Up a bit earlier, out the door a half hour earlier, and, since I don’t have a dedicated desk anymore, I’m a bit of a gypsy trying to live out of a backpack for a change.

Turns out that I was missing part of the dock/charge block for my laptop…I scrounged one from IT to borrow, luckily. I didn’t look closely when I tossed it and a few other things into my bag this morning.

I was going six ways all day, and I think there are at least three unfinished emails sitting there.

I did a poor job of taking breaks, eating at rational times, or drinking enough water through the day.

And shortly after 4pm I received a text from my better half, who now works in the office tower directly across the street, asking if I was going to meet him in the lobby of his building….or…?

Shit…threw everything back in the backpack, said goodbye to the new guy I’d spent the day probably overwhelming, and bolted so that we didn’t miss our bus (which only comes each 30 minutes) home.

So by the time we got home….and I was hungry and tired….I could not find it in me to run.

I don’t run well later in the day, particularly when I am a bit shaky with hunger, but I’m going to have to figure out how to manage food and water intake a bit smarter mid-week if I want to get a run in on days that I am downtown. Because I also do not run well early in the morning, and to run early in the morning means having to get up at a far too obscene time.

Thus, week one of committing to get back up to three days of running per week is not going well.

But at least I had something to take a photo of, so there’s that!

Little wins.
