I love winter….I always have, and I always will. I grew up with winter, real winter…not “snow on the mountains but not in town” kind of winter. I grew up with winter that made your nose hairs freeze. Winter that made your face hurt. Winter that made your car not start.
But it was also winter with clear blue skies. Winter of bright white landscapes. Winter of sledding and skiing. Winter of snowmobiling and ice fishing.
Winter was the time when you shovelled the roof off, and then jumped off the roof into the pile of snow in the front yard.
Winter was hot apple cider and bonfires.
Winter was snow forts and snowball fights.
When the snow falls, I don’t hide inside looking out in disgust. I get what needs to be done, done as soon as possible so that I can go be outdoors and enjoy winter.
I can’t wipe the smile off my face when it snows.
So today when it started snowing, we got out as soon as we could to get the chores done as early as possible. Get to Granville Island to get our trip to Oyama Sausage done first, then a run to Costco….for the quietest and fastest thorough shopping experience one could ever possibly imagine in Costco. We rolled out cart up to a cashier that was waiting without a single customer. How often does THAT happen?
On snowy days…it happens…because Vancouver’s are huddling indoors and looking out.
And when we had our chores done and out of the way, we went and did a fabulous wander up the canyon and around the larger neighbourhood…we enjoyed the beautiful snowy world that we so rarely get to experience here on the coast, and took a few wintry photos 🙂
And it was fabulous!
