Remember when summer days were filled with just being? We weren’t so focused on planning things, we just….did stuff, sometimes we did nothing at all. Maybe we just hung out with a friend, or went to the lake and swam and laid on towels and picked sand out of various places and just talked about…..whatever. We might swing on an old tire over the lake, maybe jump into the water from it, have a picnic, read a book at the beach or in the shade of a tree in the park.
I think we overcomplicate our lives more than we have to sometimes, but then again, life just piles more and more on us and somehow we are expected to bear up under the load.
Adulting.
I miss simpler times.
We need to make more time to do nothing at all, we need to let ourselves be bored again. We need to stop being obsessed with busyness. A little bit of boredon can make our brains healthier and happier.
I found this tire swing up on the edge of Woss Lake in February and the scene felt somehow melancholy to me. A tire waiting through the winter for summer and kids to arrive and put it back into use.
Now if summer would just provide some decent weather…..
