I know, it’s supposed to be 20/20….but this isn’t actually about my eyesight, it’s about achieving two goals.
I took an interval training app for the Apple watch, found a 12 week training program and extended it to 17 weeks by modifying the intervals for my old body, and somehow managed to finish it.
And, over the past four months, that watch helped me go from running for 30 seconds at a time, to running 30 minutes straight, and that has led to my losing 30 lbs.
I had a goal and I kept it in sight.
Some people seem to like running.
I think there is something fundamentally disturbing about those people. If that’s you….there is something psychotic in your fabric.
I can honestly say that I don’t fall into that category.
But I drag my ass out and do it anyway.
But it’s getting harder.
My scale says I have lost 27lbs, but I didn’t have a scale until I was two weeks into this adventure, so I think I can probably safely say that I’ve lost 30lbs…even though I have three frustrating pounds left that I want to shed, but they have stuck like glue.
The weight loss was pretty steady for a long time, and the last month it’s just slowed to a snail’s pace and has plateaued. I suppose that probably means that I am approaching what my body thinks is an appropriate weight, and it’s probably not wrong. It’s a middle of the road healthy average weight for my age and height.
I said it’s getting harder to drag my ass out to run. I am a moderately OCD sort of person, that means that I am either obsessed with something, or pretty much completely uninterested. That obsessive tendency helped me keep going until I have basically reached my goal…..but now what…how do I keep the running up to maintain things when I’ve already caught the carrot?
My interval schedule is finished and all I can do is start adding time to the length of my runs, increase the tempo a bit (or add short sprints….or <shudder> hills), and/or start adding shorter runs on the days that I am not already running.
And I intend to add something different and hopefully entertaining to my runs next week…..Zombies, Run! (https://zombiesrungame.com).
And now I am going to take another step and make myself go get contact lenses because when I get back to field work this fall, if I can’t wear them when I run because they slip, then those glasses are going to end up at the bottom of a river by accident, I just have a hunch….
