I do miss my boyz….
There were times my heart would stop when I’d see Loki looking down to the living room from the breezeway wall.
Once I came home to find a plant and an antique iron had been knocked off and flung to the room below. How the iron missed the glass coffee table is a mystery; a rug covers the gash in the hardwood floor. The plant and ceramic pot somehow missed the floor and were cushioned by the couch….soil scattered, but the pot and plant were intact.
Milo was delicate, but Loki was a walking disaster most of the time.
He fell once, right in front of me. When I arrived home from a late ferry trip and walked in the door at around 11pm. As he lay crumpled on the floor at my feet whimpering, I thought I had a cat with four broken legs and was heading for the emergency clinic…somehow he was hurt but undamaged….no clinic trip required.
I remain baffled to this day that he didn’t break anything.
Now I look up and see this fellow looking down at us instead, and I remember what a crazy and loving package he was, they both were…..and I miss them both…..and the heartache creeps back in.
But it makes me smile too.
Every cat I have lived with has left an indelible mark on my heart, but those two…..they sort of broke my ability to open myself to the eventual loss again. They were just….different…or maybe I was. Probably a combination.
And so I laugh and/or cry when Facebook presents old posts and I reflect back on the moments that they represent.
And this fellow sits high above, 15′ or so up there, and looks down at us silently.
