Seeing the Forest for the Trees

Or….in this case…seeing the tree for the twigs.

Sometimes we are so caught up in the bigger picture that we fail to see the key components, the details, that make up that big picture; the big picture is important, but so are the details. Some people see the forest as part of the landscape, others appreciate the forest as being a collection of trees. But every landscape is a collection of the branches that make up those trees, and within those branches is a complex transport network pulling energy from the sky, nutrients and moisture from the ground and turning it all into the air we breathe and the things we consume.

The interest and the importance lies in the details.

More importantly though, is the fact that little buds are starting to swell along the twiggy branches, meaning that spring is just around the corner.

Hard to believe that we are already about to enter month three of 2021…. so, since that’s a big pill to swallow, I also stopped to appreciate the leaves starting to poke their noses out into the world on the pink viburnum, which has been putting its little pink flowers out since January.
