Skeletons of Summer

by The Philosophical Fish

Walks in the neighbourhood are always interesting, if for no other reason than one gets to gather ideas from what others have done in their yards.

I’m not a fan of hydrangeas. I like neither the pink nor the blue versions (nerd knowledge….the colour difference is a genetic response to pH of the soil), but the white ones appeal a little bit. I’ve said it before, I’m not a flower gardener; I like shades of green and variety in texture of foliage.

I do, however, really appreciate the winter skeletons that the hydrangea blooms leave behind; I find it interesting the way that the petals dry to a lacy veil…even in a wet climate like ours.
