When I was a kid and went to Hawaii the first time, there was a drink that I fell in love with, called POG. It stands for Passionfruit, Orange, Guava – a triple treat of juices. It was sweet, fragrant, and tasty.
The next time I went, as a slightly older kid…I tried it again. Yup, still loved the stuff.
The next time, as an adult, for my brother’s wedding on Kauai…well……when in Rome….and yes…still liked it, though couldn’t drink as much because of the sweetness.
Ten years after that I was in Hawaii for six weeks, on a research trip. I couldn’t believe that it was still ont he shelves and bought a container, still the old gable top juice box. I did still enjoy it, though I ceertainly couldn’t drink a lot.
What I did love on that last trip was that one of my labmates took to it, so I passed the enjoyment on 🙂
A couple of weeks ago I was looking through the website of a local craft brewery on the North Shore and saw POG Sour beer on their list.
How could I NOT try it out?
I like sour beers and this one brought back some old memories. I am guessing that someone working at the brewery has some similar enjoyable memories of that same old Hawaiian juice blend.
I actually only took this photo to share with a friend….the real photo for the day was supposed to be the “Original QWERTY Keyboard” below.
It’s a better image…but the memories attached to the beer were worth writing about, so POG Sour Beer and the memories of Hawaii ended up winning for the day.
