The Lower Mainland has a mild climate, though on rare occasions the grey recedes and we get something that resembles winter.
We took advantage of the sunshine today and went for a walk along Lynn Creek. Although there were lots of people on the road (It’s a pandemic!!! Where the heck are people going!?!?), the trails in the park weren’t busy.
The trees and plants have (mostly) dropped all their leaves finally, and the trails were (mostly) dry.
A father and son were down at the creek, their bicycles laying on the trail above. We didn’t actually see them…but the bikes told the story 🙂
There was still snow and ice in the shaded areas; the sun is low on the horizon and the creek lies at the base of the North Shore Mountains, so warmth doesn’t really filter through to the ground very well. A depression filled with water, from the torrential rains a few days earlier, froze over. As the water percolated slowly through the ground, it left the ice above to crack under its own weight against the stems of the grasses. It made for a pretty image.

Both suggestive and striking what you’ve captured here.
Thank you 🙂
