I have a co-worker, my office husband, who lobs this phrase at me whenever he is annoyed, or angered…frequently at one of two mutually irritating individuals, sometimes it’s a combination of the two.
It used to come verbally over two cubicles. the kid sitting in the cubicle between us probably never having a clue what the two of us are on about. These days it comes by email but, either way, it makes me smile because it’s a little bit of camaraderie and commiseration in an otherwise rather lonely work world these days.
I ordered some tea from David’s Tea recently and, when I saw the name of this one, I had to order it, if only for a photo opportunity and to have it lying in wait for the next time he sends me his “I need to express my anger (at whatever/whoever) and I know you will understand and appreciate it…” email that generally has some salient item, highlighted in bright yellow, in some forwarded correspondence below the words.
The phrase, if you are not aware, is from an episode of Seinfeld in which George seeks anger management counselling and is encouraged to say the words whenever he feels anger encroaching on his sanity.
Except he doesn’t say it, he yells it.
And so I wait for the opportunity to reply to the email that will eventually come…… 😉
And, in the meantime, when I get frustrated, I steep a mug of “serenity now”.
