When I think of pineapples I think about an episode of Hawaii-Five-0 (the original series, not the new one).
There was this episode where they were trying to catch a criminal but they couldn’t identify him via his fingerprints and eventually they figured out that he worked int eh pineapple fields. Apparently pineapples have such acidic juice that they will erode the fingertips off of your fingers.
I actually remember that from a television show I watched in the 1970’s.
And I remember that because I met Jack Lord in 1977 and walked onto the set to get his autograph. The original series featured a restaurant with a palm leaf roof that was on the lagoon in front of the Hilton hotel. We were staying at the Ilikai, just a short distance away, and the lagoon was a favourite swimming spot for this then ten year old.
One day there was a film crew and I stood outside to watch. Jack Lord walked by me and I took his photo from my waist level (his, not mine) vantage point. He is smiling down at me.
I asked him for his autograph and he bopped me on the head with his rolled up script and said “After I shoot this scene”.
When the scene was over, he looked over at the crowd and pointed at me and motioned me in. The security lifted up the barrier and ushered me over to him and he gave me the promised autograph.
I still have that photo somewhere…and his autograph too. Things that thrill kids 🙂
Just a pineapple on my kitchen counter, but a fun memory that it brought back.
That is all.
