…..just let that sink in…..
How is sitting in front of a computer, virtually attending two meetings and two seminars and keeping up on email and other communications, all day…so exhausting.
It doesn’t make sense.
So a walk for an hour or so after the work computers are shut off for the day, particularly when the sun has returned, is welcome.
But when we passed a fence that had a holly tree draped over it and the red berries struck me against the weathered wood….the timeline hit me. We are essentially ¾ of the way through this year.
Frig’!

While we were out and about, two other things happened that did give us pause for smiles though.
#1. As we walked down a street a ways above ours, two children were riding their bicycles and the little girl, perhaps all of 5 or six years old, on her little white bicycle and sporting a pink helmet, rode slowly up behind us…then moved slightly ahead of us while keeping a distance and looked a bit back at us and said “What are you doing?”…
Not “Where are you going?” …. or “Where do you live?”… but “What are you doing?”
“We’re out for a walk because it’s been a long day sitting in front of a computer.“
Kirk returned the favour “What are you doing?”
“Riding my bicycle.”
The formalities completed, she turned her bicycle around and rode back down the street towards home. It was a funny exchange and I’m still laughing about it. It was such a clear “I don’t recognize you, why are you on my street” sort of question 🙂
#2. A few blocks away there is a house that has a gorgeous garden, but what always catches my eye are the chandeliers that have been salvaged from some junkyard and painted flat white, then hung from an ancient weeping willow.

It’s just such an unusual, and really lovely, bit of garden art. And now I need to find a small tacky chandelier and do the same from the larger of our rhododendrons, because I really like the quirkiness of them.
Fall is here, and winter is on the way….
And that’s it for today.
