The end of summer is only a couple of weeks away, but with the beginning of the end comes so many wonderful things to, literally, sweeten the bitterness of the coming darker and wetter season.
I’ve really noticed the darker mornings the past two weeks. Part of it will be that I’ve been off from work for the past two weeks and therefore just…noticing things around me a little more keenly.
I’ve been busy, that’s for certain.
Wrapping up my year’s major canning projects, getting my UBC course ready to open to a new crop of students that will have different expectations than a normal cohort might. Even though my classes are always delivered online, mine are usually the anomaly for the students and they have to try to adapt their normal classroom expectations to a different delivery format.
This year all of their classes are being delivered online so they could be stacking my class up against others a little differently.
Cross that bridge when it comes up I suppose. Every cohort has its challenges, but I feel for the students this year in particular.
Aside from those things, I’ve tidied up a few outstanding little projects, organized a few things that have been annoying me, read a book, and spent a bit of time just trying to appreciate this in-between time of year and the good things that come along with it.
Like Italian prune plums. I have always loved when they arrive at their peak ripeness.
That sweet golden flesh wrapped in that tart skin.
Such a fabulous contrast in texture and flavour.
Sweet, egg-shaped, purple, perfection.
