Recycling done right

by The Philosophical Fish

Nature recycles everything.

On an ancient cedar stump in my yard grows a new little hemlock seedling, and nearby is a common sowbug that spends its life nibbling on decaying plant material to turn it back into soil and available nutrients.

It’s September and I’m having difficulty rationalizing that in my mind. It seems like just last week that I went on vacation for two weeks…and then never had the opportunity to go back to the office because the entire world went sideways.

I’m grateful to live where I do, in the climate that we have, and the home that we have, with an oasis of a yard to escape into (and work endlessly on).

But it’s still discombobulating.

I wonder sometimes if I will ever go back to my desk downtown. I have no strong desire currently…. I’ve always struggled with the too many people, the too open landscape, and the too distracting noise and visual disturbances that come from all of those. I like quiet. I can’t think well without quiet and some level of solitude.

But I do miss certain people.

What does the future of my work look like?

I rather wish I had some sense of direction.
