It was this kind of day.
I am halfway through the 70lbs of tomatoes that I have earmarked for canning this year. Today I canned up my allocation of diced tomatoes, a smallish batch of piquant tomato sauce with a jalapeno base, and a batch of pizza sauce that should last the year.
I have an assortment of canning jars, but the Weck jars are my favourite and, at a fair expense over a couple of years, I collected enough of these 500mL jars to do all of my tomatoes. If you are going to have a walk in pantry filled with jars of “Yum”, it’s equally satisfying to have much of the “yum” in pretty jars 🙂
I usually have the bad luck to have scheduled my week of canning to perfectly coincide with the hottest week of the year. I am grateful that this is not the case this year and that the outside temperature has not exceeded 22C this week, which means the house doesn’t end up as an oven that I heat up even further.
Tomorrow…..tomato-vegetable sauce, chipotle apple BBQ sauce, and passata.
