I love this time of year, everything is fresh and flavourful.
It was another day of spawning Early Stuart sockeye out at Cultus and it was another successful egg take. A little fewer than Tuesday, but that was to be expected since this batch of fish came into holding a week or two later than the ones we spawned earlier in the week.
And, because we were done a little bit earlier and were a little less tired, my colleague and I both stopped in at the same farm’s roadside sales hut to pick up some fresh picked corn and fresh Russian garlic. I usually buy a large quantity since its availability is so fleeting.
The heads are massive, some filling the palm of my hand; each clove the equivalent of three or more normal garlic cloves. They smell heavenly, and they are going to add fantastic flavour to so many dishes over the next weeks.
Summer treasures….
