We have hated our fence since the day we bought the place. We’ve had great ideas, perused Pinterest and Houzz. Save dozens of ideas. Planned.
And still the fence taunted us in its ugliness.
Until yesterday.
Kirk got his hammers out, and a crowbar, and a shovel, and probably other tools I am unaware of.
But I think the hammer gave him the greatest pleasure.
Bashing those crappy old boards off the posts has to have felt good.
The fence along the driveway will not be rebuilt, the yard suddenly feels so much more open and friendly without it. The front will get a new fence, taller, and much nicer looking. Other sections as it wraps around down our neighbours driveway and into their yard will receive slightly different treatments.
In one or two places where there is existing fence, there will be no fence; the vegetation is thick enough to provide the screen and a lack of obstruction will add depth.
In another place, where there is no fence, we will add a few panels to screen the back and lower portions of some moderately unsightly cedar hedging.
We are both off for the next week, so the timing seemed perfect for a project….except for the fact that the temperature is crawling up into unhappy heights. We will pace ourselves though.
I think it will be awesome when it’s all done.
