I took this photo back in February, before the world turned upside down, at the ten year celebration of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics down at Canada Place.
Although today is Canada Day, Canada’s 153rd birthday, there are no public celebrations to attend. The fireworks are cancelled (many pets and wild birds will not be terrorized for a change), and gatherings are absent in the face of COVID. The day is being commemorated virtually instead.
Public safety trumps public celebration, every time, or it should anyway.
But the day still deserved to be noted with some red and white and a flag or three, and I remembered having taken, but not done anything with, this photo a number of months ago.
So Happy Canada Day, wherever you happen to be, here is a little bit of Canada to make you smile (hopefully).
It’s a miserably cold and rainy day today, so even had there been any celebrations they would have been washed out. It’s a day to curl up on the couch with a blanket…. there was even a short consideration of lighting the fireplace. We did go out for a drive, just to get out of the house. It’s not often I use the heated seat on July 1st!
And there were some diehards out there, determined to have their Canada Day BBQ on the beach at Deep Cove.
These people look cold, and they are clearly more dedicated than I am.
