I caught two “before and after” images in my garden this evening, and both made me smile.
The first pair were from a little wild strawberry plant that self seeded a couple of years ago. Last summer, my best friend and I put down landscape fabric and black bark mulch on a semi-circular path that runs around the back of the garden, but I didn’t have the heart to tear out the wild strawberry that had taken up residence against an old cedar stump from a long, long, felled tree. It thrives at the back of the yard in isolation, though usually a squirrel or a bird, or maybe even the local skunk, get to the tiny berries before I do.
The plant is sporting many tiny white flowers, or “future fruit” as I like to call them. There is at least one tiny little strawberry starting to ripen as well
The second pair of before and after images were serendipitous. We have a few Stellar’s jays that visit us on a daily basis….feeding at the feeder and tapping at our windows seeking peanuts.
(We are well trained humans)
We also have a bird bath in a shady corner under the huge rhododendron. It is well used…
I saw this handsome fellow (clearly I’m assuming since I have NO idea how to tell the males and females apart) was sitting on the edge of the bath where…a moment later, you’d be hard pressed to tell what was flinging water everywhere in the early evening sunshine……
