My hands ache after attacking (i.e. pruning) the rhododendrons. I took off the equivalent of what most people would probably consider the pile to be equivalent to a couple of normal shrub sized plants. There are still so many dead twigs deep inside the structure, but I need a ladder to get up to the rest. It’s a slow and ongoing project to clean up the inside of the big one.
Then I beat the Korean lilac into submission so that we could actually walk down the steps off the back deck into the yard without doing a bit of a sideways limbo to get past it.
I filled two of the large green organic bins.
By the time all that was done, and Kirk handed me a glass of wine…the camera only made it as far as the garden for inspiration.
So…since there was an Iris setosa in flower, this is what we get today.
Also known as the Arctic Iris or the dwarf Arctic Iris this is a new addition to the garden this spring. It stays fairly small and low growing, and looks nice up near the waterfalls.
It’s a pretty little pop of purple amidst all the shades of green, and against the backdrop of a massive hosta that dwarfs it beyond its already dwarf status.
