What’s in the Garden Today?

by The Philosophical Fish

A lazy Sunday hanging out on the back deck and enjoying the visiting birds and the beauty of whatever seems to be in bloom today.

Like the irises.

Irises were Mom’s favourite flower, ergo they are also mine. I struggle with them here; not enough heat or sunshine, my garden is largely shade and part shade.

But I keep trying….

Today, for visitors, we have the unhappy band tailed pigeons, high up in the cedar tree looking down and wishing that we’d go away. The Stellar’s jay is greedy and taking advantage of the fact that the moose-like pigeons are not coming down from up high. The black headed grosbeak spent a lot of time at the feeder yesterday; toady he just sings his tropical song from the bushes. And the Anna’s hummingbirds dart in and away, like little fighter jets.

This female sat and rested awhile while her colourful boyfriend is elsewhere.
