This is the first weekend in some time that I feel absolutely no guilt about just disappearing into the garden for hours on end. It’s because all of my marking is done, and the review I agreed to do has been submitted. So because the “other” commitments I made are finished, and I have no intention of taking any new ones on until September, I can finally turn off again for the weekends over the summer.
Kirk calls gardening my “meditation”.
He’s not wrong. Literally hours can vanish while I pull weeds and prune plants.
Bliss is a pair of old pruners (I can’t find my better ones…they are probably stuck in between the fork of two branches on some tree or bush somewhere in the garden…getting equally rusty) and a garden in need of tending…..and some good weather in which to align those two things.
On a day like today, with the weather we are having, it’s easy to forget that the world is in the throes of a pandemic causing global crisis. And there are days, like today, that it’s mentally beneficial, to forget that that is what is happening beyond the edge of the yard.
