My garden has become the next focus after the kitchen. Today Kirk got the irrigation back into action and fixed a few breaks. I moved a few plants around, did some pruning, and pulled up some moss from the lawn and relocated it to the edges of the stream and pond around our water feature.
And while I was crawling around the garden I came across one of the smaller and less common anemones I planted. I have three different anemone plantings.
The white ones are a carpet in two places. They settled in and took off and I love them
Then there is a yellow one that is only in one shadowed corner against a rock. I had lost it in the foliage until I sheared back one of the epimediums today.
And then there is this little purple anemone, which is finally starting to gain a bit of ground where I planted it. I also found a single little bloom in a completely different part of the yard where it must have self seeded.
My garden has always been shady, but it’s a little less so since we took the two ginormous hemlock trees out three years ago. Things have changed a bit…a few things are doing better, a few things a little worse.
These days of being responsible and sticking around home to try to do our part in protecting others from the SARS-CoV-2 virus means that local gardens will probably be well tended and gorgeous this year. And I’m a scientist so, although I am conscious and dedicated to helping my fellow humans by limiting my contact with others, I still believe in a bit of survival of the fittest when I garden. 🙂
