I’m on leave until April 1st. Not because of COVID-19, but because I’d booked the time off weeks ago to use up leftover vacation time that I hadn’t used and the end of March is usually a pretty quiet period without many crises in the fish side of my life.
So, that in mind, I often take this time of year off to get caught up on my UBC teaching life, since I have two classes and many papers to mark before the term ends in early April and the exam period arrives.
With Kirk isolated at home because of his recent return from Chicago and, since I obviously must co-isolate with him, I thought I would be likely to knuckle down and get through the papers relatively quickly.
I thought wrong, at least if today is any measure.
I should have done more marking today but I’m caught somewhere between recognizing that if I get my UBC work done in the next couple of days I will have two weeks of vacation time left to read some books, do some gardening, and relax before having to return to work in April, …….and being highly proficient at procrastinating and largely avoiding marking papers.
So… since today leaned towards the latter and not the former, I took another wander in the sun to look for treasures coming up from the ground, things that are taking advantage of the warmth that the days are offering up for growth.
A few of my ferns are beginning to unfurl.
That makes me smile.
And I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be back at the office April 1st…..
