How often do you stop and marvel at the tiniest things that you take for granted?
Like a paperclip?
A little tiny marvel of engineering that was designed for one single purpose, to hold multiple sheets of paper together in a non-permanent manner. Designed over 100 years ago, it’s such a simple item made of bent wire.
But that one purpose is definitely not the only thing the paperclip has been used for. It also doubles as a screwdriver, as a reset tool for many small electronics, an emergency jewellery clasp, a memo hanger, a DIY keychain. You can clear a clogged salt shaker with a bent paperclip, and if you break a zipper…..paperclip to the rescue!
That about sums up my uses for paperclips….what else have you used one for?
The next time you use some seemingly inconsequential object, stop for a moment and marvel that someone dreamed up that little what’s-it that you just unthinkingly reach for but might be lost without.
