It wasn’t raining today. The fact that I have to make that statement tells you how much rain we’ve had this year so far. Only one day without precipitation in January, and not much better since. But the sun came out yesterday and, although not as nice today as yesterday, it still made an appearance. On the “wet coast” one needs to take advantage of dry days so it seemed like a good day to walk the seawall around Stanley Park.
Many, many others also thought it was a good day to do the same; Vancouverites were crawling out of their caves and everyone was smiling 🙂
As we walked the seawall, a hawk attacked an eagle, sending it to perch in a tree overhead. A pair of seagulls sat on the seawall below and kept a close eye on the eagle, watching it suspiciously.
But the highlight was the abundance of wood ducks on Lost Lagoon. Elegant and colourful, they look painted to me. They are spectacular ducks.
And it’s not BC without throwing a crow or two into the mix. Mom always referred to them as “Northern Songbirds”.
This place we call home is spectacular any time, but after weeks of rain, when the sun comes out, the city feels like magic with such a wonderful environmental encapsulated within and between the mountains and the sea.
The tourists sometimes become a bit exhausting, the traffic can be brutal, and the rain can be incessant. But I have never regretted moving here.
This city has a life and a beauty that I am happy to call home.
