It’s (not really) late, I’m tired, and my eyes hurt from having tears stream from them much of the day. Not because I was crying out of sadness, but because the cold wind on the beaches were making my eyes water incessantly.
I have too many photos. 285 in a few hours. I’ve whittled that to 85, then to 60, and finally down to 28. But I can’t process them tonight, so I sifted through and looked for one that made me”feel” something more than the others.
This one won.
The day today included sun, wind, snow, and rain. And this moment, on Long Beach, feels like it captured the blend of the day.
The sun is buried in there, trying to fight its way through.
The wind blows across the waves and flattens them.
The sky is transitioning from a textured surface to a featureless one…that flat steel colour that signals snow to come.
And apparently a fairly decent amount of snow is forecast for the Island. Nothing like 1996 when 95 cm fell on Victoria in 24 hours. But still, white stuff is to fall and blanket the ground, and this pleases me.
But it is only threatening, a few flakes falling later in the afternoon as we wandered another trail, so for now I am content to stand on this cold beach, my eyes streaming with wind generated tears, and contemplate the fact that there is absolutely nothing at all between this spot and Hawaii, save for a great deal of water.
I bet the weather is warmer there, but I don’t care, because here is mesmerizingly amazing and the waves feel like the pulse of my world.
More photos tomorrow, when I feel so inclined 🙂
