There are probably much, much, worse places to spend a day working, even if I did have to get out of bed at 3am to be here. It was worth it to spend the day trying to catch broodstock for the Shovelnose Chinook enhancement program. I mean, seriously, how can one stand here and not be in awe of the beauty that exists in this valley?
Sadly (for us), this guy was more successful at fishing than we were today.
He was here when we arrived at 6am, and he was here when we left at around 1pm.
He was completely nonplussed at our presence, Murray even tried to chase him off when he wandered over near the net since he didn’t want to have to try disentangle a heron should it get tangled up.
But the cheeky buzzard merely wandered ahead of Murray, down the sandbar, eventually flying back to where he started to go back to fishing for juvenile fish a few feet away from us, for the rest of the day.
The fish may have outsmarted us today (they were jumping nearby, but none ventured up into the Shovelnose, choosing instead to either hold below or to continue on up the Squamish. As an added insult, while Murray removed the lines, a large Chinook jumped right behind him.
My office is pretty awesome sometimes 🙂
Particularly when there is no email, there are no phones, there is a fabulous natural environment to take in, and some really great conversation to pass the hours.
