Merry Octopus!

Do you have some Christmas ornaments that have sentimental value? I have a few, and this is one of my very favourites.

Years ago, at UBC, our lab had a Secret Santa gift exchange. I opened my gift and found an angler fish dangling a candy cane, and this little guy.

Both are handmade gems and I treasure them both, but this one in particular. It now sits on top of the thermostat at my desk downtown, up high and unobtrusive, until this time of year, then he is placed on top of my cabinet where he is visible to all.

He makes me smile every time I come to work 🙂
