September 29, 2017 – When I was younger it was hard to keep me out of the water. One of our cabin neighbours out at the lake used to call me “Frog” because I was pretty much always in the lake. I loved swimming and made my way up through the various swimming badges until I eventually went into competitive synchronized swimming. I didn’t do that for many years, but it was fun while it lasted.
When we moved to Vancouver we joined a gym downtown that had a great lap pool and I used it for some time, until we moved to the North Shore. The gym on this side was literally across the road, and it also had the worst pool possible for swimming. It was useless for any serious swimming. So I stopped swimming unless we were out in the boat and I was overheating (lakes and rivers are fine, but I hate swimming in saltwater).
That was about 20 years ago.
Now we have a brand-spanking-new Community Recreation Centre in the neighbourhood we moved to a few years ago. The Rec Centre opened a month or so ago and we’ve visited and were thrilled to see the fabulous new pool! It’s been a long time since we’ve had a pool close at hand, and a longer time since I got into the zone of doing laps. I used to find them meditative and I’m hoping I will again.
Got the gear to keep my eyes and hair out of the chlorine…. time to go swimming!
I’m excited 🙂
